To address the problem aside from moving somewhere that may be quite today and noisy next month, have you consider ear plugs or headphones? The best would be cheaper than hiring movers. I live in an area of south jersey midway between Trenton and Philly which is too quiet. But in five years they are building a hospital nearby.....end of that quite.

Not the kind of sirens you'd prefer hearing at night, huh?

I was leaving work one night real late. I had the windows open in my van. I heard a strange noise I couldn't place. It took me about 15 - 20 seconds to figure (I'm slow) out what it was. It was crickets ! I live 2 miles from Bostons Logan airport runway. And 3 miles from downtown Boston. I occasonally saw rabbits running around under the cars in the car rental parking lots late at night in the summer.

Or you can own the land surrounding you so no one can build nearby. I own 66 acres and buried deep in the property, I will never see a neighbour's house from my doorstep. I can not even hear the little bit of traffic on the road if I am in the house.

Don't know if this is addressed or not, but misophonia is what it is called. I am that way with chewing.

I've lived all over but currently reside just outside Detroit in a town with 132,000 idiots that would comforably fit 80,000 normal people imo. I have 5-8 Target stores within a quick drive, plus as many Meijer and Walmarts too. There is something to be said for having such options for food/goods but it takes me 30 minutes to drive 3 miles. No joke. My home before this was in Monmouth Maine pop. 4000. I might have seen 4 people in a week if I went to the post office 4 times that week because there was no mail delivery at my home. Actual town was a 45 minute drive for one Target and one Walmart.
Someday I would like to find something in between.

I used to live next door to a bar which was non-smoking. The bar set up an outdoor canopy for smokers. Right beside my bedroom window. It was on their side of the fence, but right outside the window. There were nights I had to sleep in the living room, if I had to get up early the next morning. Much larger city than I live in now. And the fire station was on my street too, maybe 1/4 mile away. It's funny to read all this now, as just today, my brother moved back to a bigger city from here. He must prefer the noise.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.
