My Top 10 Favorite George Brett 1994-2010 Cards (That I Own)

10. 2003 Topps Tribute Perennial All-Star Edition - Patch Relics #GB George Brett

One thing I struggle with this era of cards is the absolute craziness of amounts of signature, game worn jerseys, bat pieces, and serialized cards. The idea of let’s make a card, now let’s change the color of the border and only make 500 of them, now let’s change the boarder again and put a patch of their jersey in it and only make a 50 of those. Then after that is done, let sell the printing plate. I'm sure all the brands do very well because of this, but to the casual collector like me, who can't justify spending much more than $30 on a single card; it takes away the fun of collecting. Now that I am off my soap box, this is my only game worn jersey card and I wouldn't mind have a few more. :-)

9. 2010 Topps - The Cards Your Mom Threw Out (Original Back) #228 George Brett

I'm a sucker for a 1975 card. I think I made that point very clear in the last several, maybe all, top ten lists. I like the fact that they did both an original back variation and a commemorative variation on this card.

8. 2000 Fleer Tradition - Club 3000: George Brett / Rod Carew / Robin Yount #NNO George Brett

Die Cut cards are pretty fun because they do not fully take the standard rectangle shape. They stick out in a crowd and draw your eyes to them. I have seen variations of this card also have a game worn jersey patch, game worn bat, game worn helmet, and signature. Definitely not in my budget, but if someone wants to buy it for me, I'll gladly pay the shipping.

7. 1994 Topps Bilingual #180 George Brett

One of the reasons I like the O-Pee-Chee is because it is also written in French, so how could I not resist a card that is written in Spanish. I love all cultures.

6. 1999 Upper Deck Retro #90 George Brett

There is a definite gap of post retirement cards between 1996 and 1998. There is only 2 that I know of 1999 was when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame and that appears to start the onslaught of cards. This is a nice action shot card.

5. 2003 Topps - Record Breakers (Series Two) #RB-GB George Brett

This and the Series 1 of this card, were on my definite must have list when I first saw them, especially this one. My favorite color is green, and it has nothing to do with the color of money.

4. 1995 Upper Deck - Special Edition #190 George Brett

This is one of most recent acquisitions from this era. There is nothing that is terribly outstanding about this card, except the story behind it. I have a spread sheet of pretty much every Brett card that was made and when I get a card I check it off. It's the only thing that I really keep well organized. Somehow this card had been deleted off my list for who knows how long and I discovered it quite by accident and felt so bad that it was delete, I proceeded to buy one right away. Trust me, if it was the variation card that I wrote about on #8, it wouldn't have gotten the same treatment.

3. 1998 Sports Illustrated World Series Fever - MVP Collection #4MC Bret Saberhagen

I wrote about this card on my Bret Saberhagen list. It is a close tie between my number 2 and 3 favorite baseball player between Bo Jackson and Bret Saberhagen. I know what you are saying, "This isn't even a George Brett Card." I have no problem including Cameo cards in my lists.

2. 2003 Fleer Fall Classic - Pennant Aggression #20PA George Brett

Just another fun card. Not shaped like the normal cards, for me it was a must have. I have around a dozen or so serialized cards.

1. 2005 Bazooka - Fun Facts Relics #FF-GB George Brett

Ok, what I said on #10, I do believe. But you can't help but not like this card. Even if does have a game-used bat peice in it. My biggest question is, "Why does the kid have an eye patch?" Do you agree with my list? What are your favorite cards from this era? I would love to read comments from other collectors and respond. Also don't forgot to follow me on twitter @gbcardguy and facebook.com/gbcardguy. Thanks!
