People I Have Met

by Gunny - 37 cards (Last updated on Jun 21, 2019)

21. 2018 Panini Instant US Soccer National Team Collection #24 Becky Sauerbrunn

Same event as mentioned above. I didn't have any Becky cards but I did get a nice poster signed which I eventually got framed very tastefully.

22. 2007 Donruss Americana #78 Tom Savini

I had never been to the Steel City Con which is the Pittsburgh version of Comic Con. My good friend at one the LCS said I should start attending. So I decided to give it a whirl. Mrs Gunny and I arrived early and I got this card signed by Tom Savini who did loads of work on all the George Romero zombie movies.

23. 1991 Impel WCW #44 Ric Flair

Ric Flair was the reason for going to my first Steel City Con. After meeting Tom Savini, Mrs Gunny and myself got in line for Ric Flair as the line was growing fast. After about 45 minutes of waiting we heard a very loud WOOOOO! The place erupted. We eventually got to meet him and I got this card signed. He also allowed us to take some very nice photos with him which are now hanging above our computer desk.

24. 2014 Upper Deck Guardians of the Galaxy #48 Yondu followed Quill's trail to the Broker. He is

My second Steel City Con (SCC). Michael Rooker was one I just could not pass up meeting. Me and Mrs Gunny loved the first Guardians movie. It took Michael awhile to arrive and I noticed most people had Walking Dead stuff, I never quite got into that show. When I was next in line I noticed that the family in front of me had a small boy who was quite shy, they said he was some kind of special needs. Michael picked him up gave him a huge hug and the smile on that boy's face just lit the room. When I got my turn I told him that that just made my whole day. Got this card signed.

25. 2014 Panini Golden Age - Mini Hindu Red Back #115 Angie Dickinson

My second meeting during my 2nd SCC. I hadn't planned on getting any other autos after Michael Rooker. But as I was searching for a good Yondu card to get signed I happened upon this Angie Dickinson card. I thought what the heck and got this one signed. The only down side here was the two fellers in front of my had some huge posters to get signed and they just kept talking and talking and talking. Finally when it was my turn Angie got nice laugh when I handed her my mini card to get signed. From one size of the spectrum to the other she stated.

26. 2015 Leaf Pop Century #BA-KLB Kelly LeBrock

As I was getting ready to leave my 2nd SCC I decided to Kelly LeBrock as well. I didn't have any cards so I got one of her 8x10 photos signed. She even put her around me for a photo which was very nice.

27. 2012 Topps Star Wars: Galactic Files #158 C-3PO

My third Steel City Con. I wasn't planning on attending this one but two of my buddies who are Star Wars fans asked me to go in their stead. Each of them was working on Saturday when Anthony Daniels, who played C-3PO, would be attending. I dug out an old Marvel Star Wars comic to get signed and they loaded me down with toys. I felt a bit like a vagabond with sack full of toys but I persevered. He was very nice although I had to go back and grab the paint pen that I asked him to use to sign the toys.

28. 2014 Panini Golden Age #128 Lindsay Wagner

After the Anthony Daniels stuff was done I went to meet Lindsay Wagner. Always one of my favorite actresses I have fond memories of her work as the Bionic Woman and as Dr. Vanessa Calder in Warehouse 13. Anyways I got this card signed and she seemed intent to tell me about her new food thingee which seemed to be organic or healthy or some such thing. I politely took her flyers and went away happy.

29. 2016-17 Upper Deck - 2016-17 O-Pee-Chee Update #675 Jake Guentzel

The Baseball Card Castle in Cranberry, PA does have some nice signing sessions. I usually forget about them as I do not get out that way too often. At the start of 2017-18 NHL season though I did happen to make a Jake Guentzel signing. Got this O-Pee-Chee card signed.

30. 1987 Donruss #65 R.J. Reynolds

Main Line Autographs (MLA) does a big Pittsburgh show once a year. For 2018 they moved the show from Robert Morris University to the Monroeville Convention Center. I arrived early as it is a bit of drive for me to get to Monroeville. I got in line and found out I was one of the first 250 people to get in which entitled me to a free R.J. Reynolds auto. Well the auto was free I had to buy the 8x10 photo as did not bring any cards.

Cool list! My list of people met only has about 12 people on it, unfortunately. If you are so inclined I'd like to see captions on where/how you met them.

I'm impressed with your memory.   I sure don't remember people I've met.

Very interesting and cool list.  Kudos, also, to the memory bank.  Made me try to remember some.  The only common on my list is Bill Madlock.  He was the speaker and "headliner" at a sports banquet around 1980 or so. Got about 7 or 8 cards signed.  Chuck Tanner was there.  I believe the year before that one was with Bob Feller, got his auto on a program from that one. Later on while I was a student at Pitt, I went to a morning skate at the old Igloo prior to a game with the Flyers and met Eric Lindros and got a few signatures there.  Latest was on Easter some years back, got to meet Jameis Winston prior to an FSU/Wake Forest baseball game.  Very nice and polite young man.  Greeted a huge line of folks prior to the game right up to national anthem as he was not going to pitch that day.

As a native Pittsburgher and Pit sports fan for life, the Dave Brown story is classic!
