Random Card of the Day

Set: 1998 Upper Deck (Rate)

Card: #725 Wade Boggs

“ Hate how the UD cards scan with lines on them from that time period. I have a secondary scanner that does them without the lines, but it's much harder to use...so for now, as I scan my collection, I set them aside to work on later. I like the actual design used. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ I think I'm one of the few people who miss the rainbow Rays ” -Mike67

“ Poor old Wade got his lights punched out by Barney Gumble. ” -lonhro

“ A design from the late 1990s that I really like. Does look strange to see Boggs in a Devil Rays uni. ” -vrooomed

“ Florida was really living up to the "retirement community" reputation in the early years of the Marlins and Rays. ” -DaClyde

“ Wayyy past his prime. ” -jlaz10

“ Seriously, Wade, do you think you look better in that uni than Boston? You should have stayed with Boston and that's coming from a lifelong Yankees fan. Tradition means nothing. ” -NJDevils

“ Now here is a REAL third baseman. Sorry, couldn't resist. ” -carthage44

Set: 1995-96 Donruss - Pro Pointers (Rate)

Card: #1 Jeremy Roenick

“ Interesting idea for an insert set. Typical 90's design - that's not a good thing. ” -vrooomed

“ Ahh,good old J.R.the only pointer he didn't follow was "Keep your mouth shut".This is a nice set Donruss did do cards well. ” -uncaian

“ This card overall is a nice card. red white and blue. Go USA. ” -mmartz66

“ Learn to play hockey on a trading card. I love it. ” -koloth42

“ Very '90s design. The Blackhawks pic and USA pic are a nice touch. ” -jlaz10

Set: 1992-93 Topps - Gold (Rate)

Card: #228 Kevin Todd

“ The foil scanned well on this one. I can read it fine. Nice job, somebody. Otherwise, not a big fan of the years that the different sports sets had the same designs. Shows a real lack of creativity. Topps still does this with baseball and wrestling, although football gets it's own designs now. ” -switzr1

“ I don't know much about hockey, but...if he played in 1988-89 and 1990-91, he cannot be a first year player in 1991-92. First year he was able to contribute, yes, but not actually first year. It appears he also played in one playoff game in a previous year. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ This edition of ToppsGold always looked very nice to me. As far as the Devils go, I remember the first time I saw them live and I thought "how odd that a team named Devils ended up wearing Christmas colors." ” -Gunny

“ Great player, hard worker.Topps/Opeechee were my favourite sets from this year ” -uncaian

“ The Devils never looked good in red and green. It wasn't their style. Red and black suits them much better. ” -jlaz10

“ I don't like it when card companies use the same design across the board for all sports. Just seems lazy. ” -Id8jlb8666

“ Not a horrible layout for 1992. ” -Howintensive

Set: 1987 Fleer Update (Rate)

Card: #U-124 Alan Wiggins

“ I always liked the 1987 Fleer design. Unfortunately, I always associate Wiggins with his drug problems and, of course, dying of complications from AIDS. Also, I just noticed that it repeats his 1985 Padres and Orioles stats on the back. Not sure I ever saw that before. ” -switzr1

“ Died of AIDS in the early 90's. Apparently the first MLB player to do so. ” -lonhro

“ I always liked the idea of updates especially for Baseball. ” -yokonashiwa

“ I loved the fronts of the 87 Fleer set. The graphic at the bottom of the reverse, not so much, but it didn't take away from the card enough for me to care. 1987 - the last year of only 3 companies, and Fleer and Topps had nice looking sets. ” -vrooomed

“ A nice, clean 80's design. Never did really care for update sets though, but some nice XRC's came out of em. ” -suomibear8

“ Keep the 80's coming! ” -carthage44

“ As a kid I loved those "hot" and "cold" zone graphics, they really made me look at the game differently. ” -jackal726

“ The Orioles kept it simple (in '80s perspective) with this set, keeping all striping to a tricolor minimum. ” -jlaz10

Set: 2007 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection - Ultimate Materials Triple Patch (Rate)

Card: #UTM-11 Eli Manning / Jeremy Shockey / Plaxico Burress

“ This is the scarcest numbered card I've seen come up as RCotD. Also the first triple memorabilia I remember. Pretty cool card. Don't think I've ever owned anything with more than 2 swatches. ” -switzr1

“ Ultimate Collection was the beginning of really high end boxes. ” -carthage44

“ Nice card. As much as I gripe about how the hobby was better before people only chased "hits", I would miss them if they went away. It looks like only one of them is a patch, but UD did have a tendency of giving single color patches too, almost always taken from the jersey number. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ I see two of the fifteen listed in collections. It would be cool one day for a limited card to be completely owned by TCDB members. I have also thought it would be cool to try to collect all the cards for any limited card...that would be like a "one of one" right (or do you have to burn all but one of them to say that)!? ” -bkklaos

“ That wouldn't by any chance be blood on the one swatch? ” -NJdevils

“ Back when Eli could actually win a game. ” -jlaz10

“ When do we get the card with the entire team's jerseys on it? ” -DanD

“ For a Giants fan? Nice. For me? Not so much. :) ” -vrooomed

Set: 1997 Bowman's Best (Rate)

Card: #158 Calvin Maduro

“ Too much CGI with this card, LOL! ” -carthage44

“ Looks like an ice machine exploded behind him. ” -uncaian

“ WOW!! What a horrible card design. This might be the worst one I have seen. I don't even like the back of the card. ” -yokonashiwa

“ The chrome finish makes the Phillies unis look maroon, almost like their '80s duds. This set is red, however, as shown on the back. ” -jlaz10

“ More like "Bowman's So-So". ” -NJDevils

Set: 1994-95 Ultra (Rate)

Card: #350 Checklist: 308-350 and Inserts

“ Proof that it really is random! ” -lonhro

“ I miss checklists. Every set should include a checklist, or however many it needs to list the set. 1994-95 Ultra was unusual in that every card featured both gold and silver foil. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Wow, such a beautiful checklist! I hope some young kids out there actually use these. They don't need a stinking PC. Oh, I was kidding about it being a beautiful checklist. ” -NJDevils

“ The Lakers uniforms were so good with drop shadow numbers. ” -jlaz10

“ A checklist card is the last thing I want to see when opening a pack. Always a disappointment. ” -Id8jlb8666

Set: 1987 ProCards (Rate)

Card: #2276 Ramon Manon

“ It still has to be cool to get a card of yourself even if you do not make the Majors. ” -carthage44

“ When I first say this card, I thought his name was Prince William. Then, I see his name is like a tongue twister. ” -suomibear8

“ So simple. Too simple? Maybe. Name, team name, and position on front. Clear. Company logo? Nope, just a copyright line on the reverse. Nice! ” -vrooomed

“ Perfect minor league uniform! Obviously a copy of the affiliates uniform, but uses it's own logo. ” -jlaz10

“ For a second I thought the dude's name was Prince William ” -jackal726

“ Which one is his name? ” -switzr1

Set: 2006 Top Trumps Specials Bratz Passion 4 Fashion (Rate)

Card: #NNO Genie Magic Jade

“ Only an 8 for Dancefloor Diva?! That seems a bit low. ” -Gunny

“ Ugh...really? ” -suomibear8

“ Fashion Passion score of 55! Very impressive.........I think? ” -bplay24

“ It's disturbing what girls think is OK to look like at a young age. We call these "Working Girls" when our 4 year old points them out, and then tell her she can have them when she gets a job and pays for them herself. ” -SFC Temple

“ Hideous. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ hahahahah, oh yeah? ” -wax_house

“ I've always been interested in the Marvel Top Trumps but haven't ever come across any. I'm so glad my 3 year old is into Cap and Ninja Turtles and not Bratz (so far anyway). ” -jackal726

“ *Throws up* ” -jlaz10

“ What'z the deal with Top Trumpz again? ” -UNC_Samurai

“ I remember these dolls coming out!! I thought, "OOHH What an ugly stuck up Barbie!" They made cards too? Great. One more thing to train little girls on how to be self centered. this actually goes completely unappreciated for me. And I post CCG cards!!! ” -Dixxy

“ Not sure why you would want to take away from the picture which is what cards are supposed to be about the border has a nice touch. ” -Deathgate

“ I didnt know I was able to operate the PC while having a nightmare. ” -NJdevils

Set: 1996 Collector's Choice (Rate)

Card: #172 Greg Gagne

“ Everything about this card is strange. Gagne's name came up in the NLCS this year because he had some sort of obscure record that somebody tied this year. Possibly Kolten Wong. ” -switzr1

“ More Collector's Choice. The levitating Greg Gagne. ” -vrooomed

“ Nice Royals throwbacks. Go Royals in the World Series! ” -carthage44

“ I liked the Collector's Choice sets. Especially great to start kids in the hobby - Cheap, colorful, lots of fun inserts! ” -CluelessJoe

“ This guy was great in Swan Lake ” -jackal726

“ Ugly dumb looking card. Look at his face. :o ” -carthage44

“ I am assuming he is wearing a Monarchs jersey. Seeing the Royals in red always makes me do a double take. ” -jupiterhill
