Set: 1994 SP (Rate)

Card: #115 Clyde Simmons

“ SP used to be the "Gems" of the mid 90's. ” -carthage44

“ I like the design. Not one I've seen before, usually they used the SP designs in all sports, but not this one. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Front looks like he is one of those car crushers with the wall closing in on him. Or the garbage disposal in Star Wars. Again, which Cardinals team please? Phoenix, Arizona... ” -NJDevils

“ The Cards had some nice uniforms, especially with their state flag stripes. Their NFL 75th anniversary unis on the back were not so nice. ” -jlaz10

Set: 1966 O-Pee-Chee (Rate)

Card: #140 Jim Maloney

“ OPC, but no French. Still, love these, and would love to have a complete set of OPC from ANY year (pre-1990). ” -vrooomed

“ Jim and Astros P Don Wilson pitched back-to-back no-nos in 1969 at Crosby Field. ” -BOBSCARDZ

“ In my lifetime (since 1974), only Carlton, Gooden, Smoltz, and R. Johnson have had a higher wins total in the NL than Maloney's 23 in 1963. But he tied for 3rd that year behind Koufax and Marichal. I wouldn't mind seeing Maloney in a Heritage or Archives set. Other than buybacks, he hasn't been on a card since 2001. And there are a LOT of sets that include retired players. ” -switzr1

“ I absolutely love the diagonal stripe with the team name on the top left of the card. CLASSIC!!! ” -carthage44

“ The Reds had some beautiful vests. Interestingly enough, their player names were underneath the numbers on the back. ” -jlaz10

Set: 2004 Ultra (Rate)

Card: #245 Pokey Reese

“ Really like this design. Could have used some biography though. Especially for the second year players in the set! ” -Billy Kingsley

“ The Sox old road script was a little too round for my liking. Their new roads are much better. ” -jlaz10

“ Pokey's final stop was Boston during his 8 year MLB career. ” -carthage44

“ Nice scan considering the foil on the front. ” -vrooomed

“ I was called Pokey as a kid. I'm guessing not for the same reason he's called Pokey. ” -midbellman

Set: 1992-93 Parkhurst - Emerald Ice (Rate)

Card: #203 Al Iafrate

“ Cool card. I like the green foil, and the logo is embossed enough to see it through the card- cool. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Emerald Ice sounds pretty cool! ” -carthage44

“ The Caps had some beautiful sweaters. They tried to bring it back, but the Edge stripes just don't work. ” -jlaz10

“ I really liked the look of these cards when they first came out. Not much of a hockey fan though ” -Mike67

“ Ah, the Emerald Ice - the only difference was a patch of green foil on the front. What a great parallel. :( ” -vrooomed

Set: 1993 Ultra (Rate)

Card: #160 Gary DiSarcina

“ Curbstomp! ” -Id8jlb8666

“ I really liked this design theme for Ultra- they used the same theme the first two years for the NBA. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Ultra tried their best to be the "Gem" of the early 90's sports cards. ” -carthage44

“ That looks like it's going to end painfully ! Merry Christmas everybody ! ” -uncaian

“ Nice action shot. If I squint it looks like he's about to be taken out by a comet. ” -jackal726

“ I felt sorry for Gary at first, I mean a flaming baseball is headed straight to his back, but then I saw he's giving a curb stomp to the other team, so maybe he deserves it. ” -jupiterhill

“ "Use me as a stepping stone" said by Mickey Tettleton. ” -JimStaub

“ The Angels late '80s-early '90s look is underrated. Despite it's obvious pullover undertones, you can never go wrong with anything red and navy. ” -jlaz10

“ Boot to the head! ” -cynicalbuddha

“ Just a horrible back. One photo on the front is plenty. ” -NJdevils

“ Doing push-ups with someone standing on your neck seems like something Greg Jennings would do in a deodorant commercial. ” -revnorb

“ Nice photography, decent layout (for the few stats). ” -vrooomed

Set: 1991 Upper Deck - Team Logo Holograms (Rate)

Card: #NNO Milwaukee Brewers

“ I love hologram cards. To me they are the best insert concept ever. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Loved putting these stickers on my sports card binders. ” -carthage44

“ Inserts. Easy to find inserts. Just about the coolest things back in the day. ” -vrooomed

“ It looks like an X-ray of a Brewers logo... ” -suomibear8

“ NONE ” -PDIZZLE

“ Maybe down the road, we can start using animated GIFs for hologram and "Magic Motion" type cards. ” -DaClyde

“ Interesting how the ball seems to stay in one place, while the glove can move. ” -jlaz10

Set: 1990 Topps - Glossy All-Stars (Rate)

Card: #18 Kirby Puckett

“ Hey, the camera's over here! ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Is he remembered more for his Hall of Fame baseball career or his run ins with the law? ” -carthage44

“ I loved the glossy All Star sets, even though the design never seemed to change from year to year. These were fun because they were inserted one per rack pack, and you could see who you were going to get. If you were going for a set, you wouldn't get any doubles, unless you bought the pack for one of the visible base cards. You could see five of those too. Of course a rack pack cost more than a dollar so I didn't buy them very often. Also, Kirby is looking a little slim here. ” -switzr1

“ One of the greats of his day, I actually bought tickets when the Twins came to Cleveland to see him play. Old Cleveland Stadium, Kirby was a joy to watch. ” -Gunny

“ Simply one of the best ever to play the game. And clutch, too. ” -vrooomed

“ The Twins M-script cap was nice, but shouldn't have ever been full-time. They should have kept the TC for at least home. ” -jlaz10

Set: 1997 Donruss Limited (Rate)

Card: #138 Vladimir Guerrero / Jim Edmonds

“ VLAD! I miss that guy. Definitely All-Name Team. ” -Howintensive

“ Vlad kind of dropped off the face of the earth real fast. Edmonds is a legit Cardinals legend despite playing only 8 of his 18 years there. I liked the concept of a 2-sided base set at the time. I suppose I still do. Something different; I gotta admire effort. ” -switzr1

“ Not a bad design. It looks like the front may be chrome? Also, where did the bat go on the back of the card? I see the nob, but no bat. It's probably straight back behind him, but it just looks funny. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ I miss the Expos existing. I don't really miss those Angels' unis. ” -duaned99

“ This was an interesting concept, which I know they used in hockey as well. The cards were nice, and only 1 real parallel. ” -vrooomed

“ Interesting two-in-one concept. Horrible Angels uni, by the way. ” -jlaz10

“ He looks like he is about to get rolled over by a giant boulder like in that scene from "Raiders of the Lost Ark." ” -revnorb

“ Another case of chrome/foil not scanning nearly as nice as it looks in real life. I scanned this card 7 or 8 times and this was the best I could get on the front. ” -jackal726

“ Not a fan of the dual player, front and back cards. ” -carthage44

Set: 1987 ProCards (Rate)

Card: #2219 Shawn Barton

“ Anyone have this complete set of 2,812 total cards? ” -carthage44

“ Love minor league cards. I want them all. Can't have them all. :( ” -vrooomed

" Anyone looking for a good proctologist might want to check out the left field wall. " -haogaole

“ Nothing fancy but I like it. ” -koloth42

“ Interesting how a button-down jersey with no stripes is paired with a sansabelt '80s style pants. ” -jlaz10

Friday, December 26, 2014

Set: 1999 Stadium Club (Rate)

Card: #152 Josh McKinley

“ Photos on Stadium Club cards always looked different than other sets. I've never been able to put my finger on why that is, and I didn't even pay attention to that fact until I was a little older. But it is noticeable. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ I like it. ” -vrooomed

“ Love short print rookies like this one. ” -carthage44

“ Another Expos' card. I don't remember Josh McKinley though. ” -JimStaub
